- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. lard
- 1 qt. sweet milk
- 1 yeast cake
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. salt
- Heat first 3 ingredients to boiling and cool to lukewarm.
- Add yeast and flour to make the consistency of cake dough.
- Set aside to rise for 2 hours.
- Add baking powder, soda and salt to the dough and more flour to make a stiff batter; let rise 2 hours before baking.
- This will keep days in the refrigerator.
