Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Ingredients

  1. 1 medium apple, sliced
  2. 1/4 cup steel cut oats
  3. 3/4 cup water
  4. 2 tbsp applesauce
  5. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  6. 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  7. 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  8. 1/4 tsp cardamom
  9. 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  10. 1 tbsp flax seeds (optional)
  11. 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)
  12. 1/4 cup milk
  13. 1 crushed walnuts or almonds (optional)
  14. 1 honey or maple syrup (optional)

Directions

  1. Core and slice/chop a medium apple
  2. Combine apple, oats, water, applesauce, vanilla, spices, flax seeds, and chia seeds in a pot
  3. Bring to a boil, then turn down heat to medium and cook until liquid has been absorbed, stirring often
  4. Note: if using a microwave, combine ingredients above in a microwave safe bowl and cook in intervals of 30 seconds on high until liquid is absorbed
  5. Once liquid is absorbed, stir in milk
  6. Sprinkle nuts and drizzle sweetener over top, serve warm
