A White Christmas Tree Made of Bread

  1. 1 described in the hints section Bread wreath dough
  2. 1 described in the hints section Cut-out cookie dough
  3. 1 Icing
  4. 1 Silver dragees
  5. 1 Gold colored cake decorating powder
  6. 1 Ribbon

  1. For the bread dough, kneaded for 20 minutes, let it rest for 20 minutes, divide into 6 potions and rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Roll out each piece of dough about 65 cm long (If the dough is dry and hard to work, moisten your hands with a wet towel...)
  3. Make the base: Make a 22 cm high, 15 cm diameter cone shape using thick paper and a stapler, and wrap with foil.
  4. (It will be baked standing up, so measure the inside height of your oven first to decide on the height of the cone.)
  5. Spray the cone with oil, and wrap the dough around from the top, leaving small gaps in between each coil.
  6. If you can wrap it so that there's a small bit left at the end the finish will be neat.
  7. Adhere the ends with a beaten egg and secure well.
  8. Brush with beaten egg, and bake in a preheated 340F/170C oven for 10 minutes.
  9. Take it out and brush with egg again and bake for another 10 minutes at 340F/170C, then lower the heat to 300F/150C and bake for another 30 minutes.
  10. (Check the doneness of the bread, and leave to dry further if needed at 210F/100C for a few minutes.)
  11. Remove the mold and dry out the bread.
  12. Make the icing: Use 50 g powdered sugar and 1/3 of an egg white, and adjust the consistency so that it's easy to work with.
  13. Using an icing bag, draw the outline on the cookies before filling in for a nice finish.
  14. Combine the tree with a glass goblet, add ribbon, stick on the cookies, and it's done.
  15. I tried using both a glue gun and thick icing to stick the cookies on the tree.
  16. Which is better?
  17. I'll see how it goes and maybe report back...
  18. This is the first bread wreath I tried making, using 15 strands.
  19. I hung it in our living room.
  20. The big wreath is 18 cm in diameter, and the small one is 12 cm.
  21. I made mini-wreaths (12-13 cm diameter) braided with 5 dough strands.
  22. I wanted to gift them to many friends, but I ran out of time!
  23. Next year....
  24. Stollen!
  25. I made 7 as gifts this year.
  26. Since I made so many, I know all the tricks now!
  27. I made cocoa biscotti, granola biscotti, kinako flavored granola caramels, and "Kanayan's" improved wreath shaped cookies, plus melon cookies.
  28. I packed 5 kinds of sweets into a Christmas-patterned cute heart shaped box.
  29. The boot-shaped white sticker is so cute, too!
  30. I used clear bags and ribbon to show the contents of the gift!
  31. I made 4 for my daughter's friends plus 3 more for other friends.
