April's Meatloaf

Ingredients

  1. 23 cup cubed bread, 4 slices torn (I like white or wheat)
  2. 1 cup milk
  3. 1 12 lbs lean ground beef
  4. 2 beaten eggs
  5. 14 cup fine chopped onion
  6. 1 teaspoon salt
  7. 12 teaspoon rubbed sage
  8. 1 dash pepper
  9. 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  10. 14 teaspoon nutmeg
  11. 14 cup catsup
  12. 1 teaspoon dry mustard

Directions

  1. In a large bowl soak bread cubes in milk until bread is saturated.
  2. Add spices.
  3. Add meat and onions along with the beaten eggs and mix well.
  4. Form into a loaf and bake in a glass casserole dish at 350 degrees, draining fat as needed for 35- 40 minutes.
  5. More time may be needed.
  6. Check for doneness.
  7. If you want, add a couple of slices of provelone to the center of the loaf before baking, this is a real husband pleaser.
  8. Piquant Sauce:.
  9. Mix all the ingredients together and brush or pour onto meatloaf.
  10. Sauce is added about 10 minutes before your meatloaf is done.
  11. (I always double the sauce).
