Caramel Brownies



  1. 1 lb. individually wrapped caramels (light)
  2. 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  3. 3/4 c. butter
  4. 2/3 c. evaporated milk
  5. 1 c. chocolate chips
  6. 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)


  1. In a double boiler over low heat, melt 50 caramels and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk. To a German chocolate cake mix, add 3/4 cup of melted butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Mix well; put 1/2 of batter in a greased 9 x 13 pan and bake for 6 to 7 minutes at 350°. Remove from oven and sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of chopped nuts (optional) over the top. Pour melted caramels over that. Then distribute the remaining half of the cake mixture by spoonfuls over this. Bake at 350° for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool and cut.
