Kosher Pickles



  1. 4 qt. water
  2. 1 qt. vinegar
  3. 1 c. salt
  4. dill
  5. garlic cloves
  6. hot red pepper
  7. cucumbers
  8. alum


  1. Boil first three ingredients.
  2. Pack jars with next four ingredients.
  3. Pour boiling mixture into jars up to 1/4 inch from top of jar.
  4. Put small amount of alum into each jar.
  5. Be sure to wipe off top of jars after pouring in vinegar mixture.
  6. Seal immediately.
  7. Set hot jars into water bath until hot through and through.
  8. Do not allow hot jars to touch or set on cool surface.
