- 4 qt. water
- 1 qt. vinegar
- 1 c. salt
- garlic cloves
- hot red pepper
- Boil first three ingredients.
- Pack jars with next four ingredients.
- Pour boiling mixture into jars up to 1/4 inch from top of jar.
- Put small amount of alum into each jar.
- Be sure to wipe off top of jars after pouring in vinegar mixture.
- Seal immediately.
- Set hot jars into water bath until hot through and through.
- Do not allow hot jars to touch or set on cool surface.
