Chocolate Angel Pie

Ingredients

  1. 2 egg whites
  2. 1/8 tsp. salt
  3. 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
  4. 1/2 c. sugar
  5. 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  6. 1/2 c. finely chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Crust:
  2. Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until foamy.
  3. Add sugar (2 tablespoons at a time), beating well after each addition.
  4. Then continue beating
  5. to very stiff peaks.
  6. Fold in vanilla and nuts.
  7. Spoon into lightly greased 8-inch pie pan to form nest-like shell; build up sides to 1/2-inch above edge of pan.
  8. Bake in slow oven (300°) for 50 to 55 minutes.
  9. Turn off oven and let cool overnight.
