Cottage Cheese Zeppelins(Varskes Cepelinai)



  1. 7 boiled potatoes, mashed
  2. 7 raw potatoes, finely grated
  3. 2 c. cottage cheese
  4. 1 egg
  5. 1/2 tsp. salt
  6. 1 tsp. caraway seed (optional)


  1. Mix together by hand the grated and mashed potatoes.
  2. With a large glass dipped in flour, cut into round or oval shaped pieces. Combine cheese, egg, salt and caraway seed.
  3. Place a generous tablespoon on each round.
  4. Fold over, press edges together and shape into an oval shaped dumpling.
  5. Boil in rapidly boiling salted water for about 15 minutes.
  6. Lift out with slotted spoon. Serve with melted butter or sour cream.
