Dinner Rolls



  1. 5 c. self-rising flour
  2. 1/4 c. sugar
  3. 1 c. shortening
  4. 2 c. buttermilk
  5. 1 tsp. soda dissolved in buttermilk
  6. 2 pkgs. yeast dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water


  1. Sift flour and sugar together; cut in the shortening. Add yeast mixture, then buttermilk mixture. Stir well. Knead dough then place in greased bowl and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Roll out and place on cooking sheet well greased. Brush tops with marg. and let set out 2 hours before cooking.
  3. Place in cold oven; bake at 450° until brown, then brush with marg. Makes 30 to 36 rolls.
