Apple And Cheddar Gratin

Ingredients

  1. 2 lb. Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/4-inch slices
  2. 1/2 c. raisins
  3. 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  4. 1/4 c. fresh lemon juice
  5. 3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  6. 1/2 c. flour
  7. 1/8 tsp. salt
  8. 1/2 stick cold butter, cut into squares
  9. 1 c. finely grated extra sharp Cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. In a well-buttered 1-quart shallow baking dish, arrange apple slices and sprinkle with raisins, cinnamon and lemon juice.
  2. In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour and salt.
  3. Blend in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal, then add cheese and toss.
  4. Sprinkle mixture over apples and bake in upper third of oven, preheated at 350,° for 30 minutes or
  5. until apples are tender.
  6. Serves 4 to 6.
