Old Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake

Ingredients

  1. 1 c. shortening (Wesson)
  2. 2 c. sugar
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 1 c. sweet milk
  5. 2 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  6. 3 c. self-rising flour

Directions

  1. Mix sugar and flour.
  2. Add shortening and blend until smooth. Beat about 3 minutes.
  3. Add eggs; beat 1 minute.
  4. Add flavoring last.
  5. Beat about 3 minutes with electric mixer.
  6. Line pan with wax paper and grease well.
  7. Bake at 400° for about 15 minutes.
  8. Makes 3 layers.
  9. Stack with seven minute icing.
  10. Place strawberries on top of cake and let run down sides of cake.
  11. Very good.
