Moist Devil'S Food Cake

Ingredients

  1. 2 c. sifted flour
  2. 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  3. 1/4 tsp. salt
  4. 1/2 c. shortening
  5. 1 1/2 c. sugar
  6. 2 eggs, separated
  7. 1/2 c. cocoa
  8. water
  9. 1 tsp. vanilla
  10. 1 c. milk

Directions

  1. Sift together the flour, soda and salt; set aside.
  2. Combine shortening and sugar in a bowl.
  3. Beat until creamy.
  4. Add egg yolks; beat well.
  5. Combine cocoa, water and vanilla to make 1 cup; mix well.
  6. Add to batter.
  7. Add flour mixture alternately with milk.
  8. Beat well after each addition; set aside.
  9. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form when beater is lifted.
  10. Fold into batter. Bake in two 9-inch greased cake pans at 375° for 30 minutes.
