Dot'S Civil War Cake

Ingredients

  1. 3 medium apples, chopped
  2. 2 c. raisins
  3. 1 c. brown sugar
  4. 1 c. granulated sugar
  5. 2 Tbsp. shortening
  6. 2 c. cold water
  7. 3 c. flour
  8. 2 tsp. soda
  9. 1 tsp. cinnamon
  10. 1 tsp. nutmeg
  11. 1 tsp. cloves
  12. 1 tsp. salt
  13. 1 c. nuts

Directions

  1. Combine and cook first 6 ingredients.
  2. Bring to boil and boil 5 minutes; cool.
  3. Add sifted, dry ingredients to apple mixture. Stir and blend only.
  4. Add nuts.
  5. Pour into greased and floured tube pan.
  6. Bake 1 hour at 350°.
  7. Serves 16.
