Swedish Heirloom Cookies

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 c. shortening
  2. 1/2 c. butter, softened
  3. 1 c. sifted powdered sugar
  4. 1/2 tsp. salt
  5. 2 c. all-purpose flour
  6. 1 Tbsp. water
  7. 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  8. 1 1/4 c. ground almonds
  9. powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Cream shortening and butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Add powdered sugar and salt.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Stir in flour.
  5. Stir in water, vanilla and almonds.
  6. Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Flatten slightly.
  9. Bake at 325° for 12 to 15 minutes or until done.
  10. Dredge cookies in powdered sugar while they're still warm.
  11. Yields about 8 dozen.
